When the production team of a major component manufacturer for the oil industry decided they wanted to develop an improved system for storing their raw materials they contacted Solve Engineering to see if we could help. The company wanted to develop a racking system for their bar stock that would allow them to keep various sizes of particular metal grades stored together by grade type.

The company were concerned both with improving materials organisation and reducing the safety hazards associated with moving and storing heavy bars.

Taking the outlined concepts discussed during an initial meeting, Solve Engineering produced initial CAD sketch designs for client review. When the basic geometry was approved, Solve then engaged consulting structural engineers to check that the strength of the proposed design would be adequate for the purpose intended.

Solve then produced detailed fabrication drawings which the client issued to it’s own in house engineers for manufacture. Shown above is a completed rack in service. Shown below are some extracts from the design drawings.
